Peter Valente RIP

It is with a heavy heart we report that Peter passed away at the weekend. I am sure he couldn’t have wished for a better parting than competing in a sport that he gave much enthusiasm to and he truly loved.

Peter was competing at a trial in Fife today and at the half way point began complaining of chest pains and subsequently collapsed and unfortunately couldn’t be revived.

He was 'trials' through and through and competed at all levels including the SSDT and helped me personally at trials on many occasions. He was one of the original members of The Galloway Motorcycle Club’s ‘Trials Section’ getting involved and travelling to meetings all the way from his home in Edinburgh. He was our Clerk of the Course at the Saturday Wallaceton Trial and has even helped out with observing.

In addition Peter got involved in our Road Runs travelling all the way down to Galloway completing the runs and then returning.

He has also marshalled at our Drumlanrig Scramble and just loved the overall aspect of what our Club offered to satisfy his thirst for motorcycling.

Thank you Peter for your involvement with The Galloway Motorcycle Club, your help will never be forgotten and you will be sorely missed.

Our condolences to family and friends.

Derek Porter on behalf of The Galloway Motorcycle Club.

The Galloway Motorcycle Club

The Galloway Motorcycle and Light Car Club was formed in the 1930s and grew to become one of the largest clubs in Scotland inspiring many talented riders and champions.

In the ’60s the scramble track at Airds, Crossmichael, became its home, attracting riders and spectators from north and south of the border with its exciting races and challenging terrain.

The Club closed in 2011 but, in 2017, due to the enthusiasm of two keen local classic scramblers, a group was formed to run a classic scramble at Drumlanrig Castle. The event proved successful and encouraged the two to form a local club to be run under the auspices of the SACU which would appeal to all motorcycle enthusiasts. In 2018 The Galloway Motorcycle Club Ltd was reformed.
